Protect Your Facility Against General Winter with Action's Premium Tri-Fin Polar Seal
As the climate grows more extreme, standard Brush Seals and Vinyl may not be capable of protecting your facility. Action Industries’ Tri-Fin Polar Perimeter Seal is up for the challenge and will protect commercial spaces in frigid climates. Read on to learn about why our Perimeter Seal is your best friend when General Winter pays a visit.
Why Choose a Tri-Fin Polar Perimeter Seal?
Action’s Tri-Fin Polar Perimeter Seal is a heavy-duty, premium product designed for commercial facilities in cold climates. Our Tri-Fin Polar Seal is made of durable rubber EPDM, which can withstand a wide range of temperatures from -60 to over 200 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s an exceptional seal for colder environments due to how pliable it stays in freezing weather compared to Vinyl.
Action’s Tri-Fin Polar Seal also performs well in glacial areas. The Tri-Fin Seal has a rubber thermal break that functions as a gasket beneath the retainer and seals tightly. It also contains two fins created specifically for northern work in freezing areas. If one flap is lifted or blown in the wind, the other flap will stay stable so your facility remains protected and insulated from the cold.
What Makes EPDM so Resistant to the Cold?
The durability of EPDM seals is due to their single-bond molecular structure, which is far more difficult for UV rays and ozone to break apart than double-bonded rubbers. It is also the most waterproof rubber, low maintenance, and holds its shape over time. Learn more about EPDM and other common seal materials here!
Make Installation Easy with Action’s Installation Kit!
Action makes installation easy by including your Tri-Fin Polar Seal plus everything needed to install it in a convenient installation kit! Our kit comes with a 45-degree corrosion-proof aluminum retainer profile that holds the Tri-Fin Polar Seal flush against the exterior of your door to form an extra-tight seal. This retainer profile is great for doors with uneven surfaces where they meet the header and door jambs such as corrugated doors, roll-up doors, and rolling steel doors.
The Tri-Fin Polar Seal also comes in one continuous piece, allowing installers to hide seams in the corners and provide a tight fit. Cut-down retainers come pre-tapped with holes for fasteners, so no additional drilling is required for installation. Simply open your Action Industries Weather Seal Kit and install the retainers with the included self-tapping fasteners. Our kits come in three sizes: 10’x10’, 12’x12’, and 14’x14’.
How to Install a Tri-Fin Polar Perimeter Seal
You can choose to buy individual Tri-Fin Polar Seals in 100’ reels and by the foot. For those who purchase the seal individually, The Tri-Fin Polar Seal should be used with the Action Industries Standard 45-degree retainer (A0282).
Before installation, you’ll need a screwdriver, tape measure, hacksaw, and something to mark with.
- Lay out your seal kit.
- Measure the width of the door. Measure the retainer and mark where to cut.
- Using the hacksaw, cut the retainer on the marked spot.
- Align the retainer with the threshold and use the supplied screws to secure the retainer onto said threshold.
- Measure the sides of the door. Mark the retainer accordingly and cut it.
- Use the supplied screws to secure the retainer to the door. Repeat the same process for the other side of the door. When to replace a EPDM Seal can depend on a variety of factors, such as the climate and how often the door is used. Generally, a EPDM Seal lasts around five years, though some can function up to ten in generous conditions.
Life Expectancy and Upkeep
The life expectancy of a Tri-Fin Polar seal depends on outside conditions, but five years is generally a good estimate. Our EPDM seal is maintenance-free, but to prolong the seal’s life, you should clean and wipe down the inside of the seals at their contact point with the door about once to twice a year.
To ensure your door maintains full protection against the outside elements, be sure to check your seal twice a year for cracks or other signs of wear. Even a little fissure will provide a gateway for debris and the elements to infiltrate your facility, so it is best to replace the seal as soon as you notice any damage. With Action’s seals, you can save money and keep the retainer on your door, just change the seal!
Action Industries has every part for every door, and seals are no exception! In addition to the Tri-Fin seal, we also offer weather seals specifically designed to protect your door against rain, pests, and more!
