Storm Shield® Threshold Installation and Product Guide

Storm Shield® Threshold Installation and Product Guide

The Action Industries Storm Shield threshold is among the oldest on the market. Its easy installation and numerous benefits that protect homes and businesses alike make this garage door threshold a must during any home improvement project. Read on to learn more about the Storm Shield Threshold and how to install it yourself.

What is the Storm Sheild® Threshold?

Action’s original Storm Shield garage door threshold weather seal has protected doors for decades. Designed to make installation as simple as possible, once installed it prevents water, wind-driven rain water, snow, dust, dirt, and leaves from entering under the garage door. Storm Shield also keeps out rodents, snakes, and other small pests that cause damage to your interior. The protective seal blocks air from leaking inside as well, which can help cut energy costs in extreme weather conditions. Installing a garage door threshold will keep your garage door clean, secure, and ensure everything inside remains in peak condition. It also includes a full 2-year warranty.

What is the Storm Sheild Threshold Made of?

Action's Storm Sheild threshold is made right here in the USA with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). PVC is made from the polymerization of the vinyl chloride monomer. This creates chains out of the monomers called polymers, which are then processed into plastics like PVC. This particular plastic is known to be flexible, durable, and won't crack easily.

What is Included with a Storm Sheild Threshold?

Action’s convenient garage door threshold seal kits include all of the materials needed for a DIY installation. The glue provided for the Storm Shield has been tested extensively and will stick the threshold to the ground.

How do You Install a Storm Shield Threshold?

Check out this video for installation instructions for the Storm Shield Threshold, or read the steps below. Prior to installation, be sure you have a utility knife, tape measure and a pencil on hand.

    1. Begin by opening the garage door and checking the area for large cracks, holes, and wet areas, which will need to be repaired prior to installation. Sweep the working area to make sure the adhesive can stick to the surface without being interrupted.
    2. With the garage opened, unroll and center the seal under the door and trim it if necessary. When trimming the seal, use extreme caution. Score the seal on top and cut along the scored line.
    3. Next, lower the garage door on top of the threshold five-centimeter front side, placing the hump against the back bottom of the door. Use a pencil to trace a line along the threshold while the door is set on top of the threshold.
    4. After tracing one side, carefully raise the door and trace the other side of the threshold. Before applying the adhesive, make sure there is no moisture on the path of the threshold and clean it if there is.
    5. Remove the threshold carefully and apply three rows of adhesive inside the trace line in the pattern as shown on the instructions. Apply two rows first and a zigzag pattern in between the rows.
    6. After applying the glue, place the threshold between the trace lines with the 5-centimeter front flap towards the outside and pressed firmly on top of the threshold.
    7. Carefully walk on the length of the threshold to spread the adhesive evenly.
    8. Lastly, allow a minimum of 24 hours of dry time before driving over the threshold.
